Gert Comfrey (they, them, theirs)

I use a combination of approaches in my therapeutic work including anti-oppression, feminist, and narrative frameworks. I rely deeply on systems theory and the understanding that individuals are products of and in dialogue with our surroundings, including our families, broader culture, workplaces, nature, and political climates. Along with my therapy degree, I also hold a masters degree in theological studies, and I incorporate conversations about spirutuality and spiritual direction into sessions as clients desire. I have extensive experience working with transgender clients and clients wanting to explore gender identity, along with letter-writing for gender affirming surgeries. I am also a trained Circle facilitator and have offered trainings to healthcare professionals, counseling interns, and students regarding best practices when working with queer clients.

Deep connections sustain and heal the human spirit. When we are deeply connected to ourselves, our values, our story, and our inner workings, we can thrive. When we are genuinely connected to others, to family, and to community, we can flourish. Often, however, disconnection and fracture prevent the kind of thriving that might be possible. Through my therapeutic approach, I aim to work collaboratively with clients to explore both areas of disconnection and suffering, as well as opportunities for re-connection, for the deepening of current connections, and for lasting change.
