My Background and Approach
I am a certified School Psychologist and Registered Psychotherapist in Colorado. I am also a Board Certified Cognitive Specialist (BCCS) and Certified Autism Specialist (CAS). As a BCCS, I have extensive training and experience in assessing cognitive skills. My experience does not stop there, applying my training to other areas to fully understand the whole individual. As a CAS, I have extensive training and continued professional development in assessing for Autism as well as working in ABA based therapy with individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. I work with individuals of all ages. We can work in my office or I can travel to you! All evaluations are individualized to the reason for the assessment. Longer assessments are typically broken up into smaller sessions. Counseling/psychotherapy with children ages 4-16 incorporates a combination of play-based, Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, and other methods, based on the reason for counseling and age of the child.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My main mission is to understand how children and adults learn, connecting the dots across multiple data points. I believe everyone can learn, but some may need to learn in different ways. In counseling/psychotherapy, children are capable of many things. They sometimes need to be reminded of all they are capable of, and may need to understand their thoughts to see their abilities.
