About My Clients
I enjoy supporting new parents adjusting to pregnancy and postpartum, who may be struggling to connect with their baby or toddler, who are learning to parent away from their family of origin, or who are finding the transition more difficult than expected. As a Brazilian immigrant myself, I also specialize in working with people navigating complex feelings about immigration, solidifying their identity, and those straddling two or more cultures.
My Background and Approach
I enjoy supporting new parents adjusting to pregnancy and postpartum, who may be struggling to connect with their baby or toddler, who are learning to parent away from their family of origin, or who are finding the transition more difficult than expected. As a Brazilian immigrant myself, I also specialize in working with people navigating complex feelings about immigration, solidifying their identity, and those straddling two or more cultures. I believe therapy can be a tool for self-discovery and making room to breathe, for learning to re-parent ourselves, and for listening to and acknowledging the parts of us that cause us shame. My approach is based on relational and attachment-based theory, meaning that I use our relationship and knowledge of your earliest experiences with caregivers to understand you and how you operate in the world. I also draw from CBT and DBT to help you respond to overwhelming feelings from a grounded place and begin making concrete changes.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I work with people from many cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, and I know that your identity and your history shape how you move through the world. I don’t treat that as a side note. I’m committed to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice, which means I pay attention to how racism, discrimination, and systems of power affect your mental health, your relationships, and your sense of belonging. I’m also always learning. If I get something wrong, I want to hear about it, and I’ll listen. I welcome LGBTQ+ clients, including trans and non-binary people, and I approach this work with respect and genuine affirmation. You’re the expert on your own identity. You won’t need to educate me, defend yourself, or justify who you are in my office. Whoever you are and wherever you’re coming from, you’re welcome here.
