About My Clients
Many of my clients are questioning or leaving high-demand religious communities, especially Mormon/LDS or Christian backgrounds. They may feel guilt, grief, anger, family pressure, loss of community, or uncertainty about who they are without inherited expectations. I also work with men who feel emotionally isolated or have learned to carry everything alone. Therapy is a place to clarify your own values and build a life that feels authentic and self-directed.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California and a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Utah, with six years of experience and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. My style is person-centered and collaborative. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients clarify their values, practice mindfulness, and make changes aligned with the life they want. I use Cognitive Processing Therapy when trauma requires more structured processing, and I incorporate Internal Family Systems-informed perspectives to help clients understand their internal patterns and strengthen emotional regulation. I have no agenda about whether you stay, leave, or redefine your beliefs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am agnostic, secular, and non-theistic. I was raised in the Mormon/LDS church and later deconstructed those beliefs, so I understand both the cultural familiarity and the complexity of leaving a high-demand religion. I value curiosity, evidence, self-determination, and respectful spiritual exploration. I do not use spiritual or supernatural techniques in therapy; I follow the client’s lead when beliefs or spirituality matter to their experience.
