About My Clients
My goal as a therapist is to provide tailored support and a safe space to share struggles, milestones, and victories. I like to say that I provide "therapy, your way." I understand the value of a provider who is willing to listen and work WITH you to help you meet your therapy goal, whether that is to just talk, or to make a plan to manage symptoms. I also have specialized experience with clients experiencing stressors related to chronic illness, divorce, pregnancy, postpartum, and cancer.
My Background and Approach
I am currently a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern and Psychology Resident, meaning that I am working towards dual licensure as a LMHC and a Clinical Psychologist. I obtained a PhD in Clinical Psychology and am trained in traditional, evidence-based treatments like CBT. Through my training, I worked as a therapist in small clinics, the VA, and a NCI-designated cancer center. What I learned by helping clients in different treatment environments is that there is no "one-size-fits all" approach to mental health and whole health, and that often, clients benefit most when their individual needs are examined and addressed. My hope as a therapist is to provide each of my clients with a tailored, unique treatment plan that will best address their needs and concerns, while empowering them with tools and confidence to utilize their skills in their daily lives outside of our sessions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that any client is capable of enacting change, healing, and growth in their lives. I also believe that there are pivotal, "teachable" moments in life that shape our decisions, our beliefs, and our lives, and therapy can be a vehicle for adoption or modification of those. I have helped clients shift their outlook on their relationships, the way that they handle their own emotional and physical health, and their ability reflect inwardly, which are all tremendous skills. I also believe in transparency as a therapist, which includes sharing thoughts and reflecting feelings with the client when appropriate to do so, as there is a large degree of humanity in relating to one another in a vulnerable space. Therapy should not be sterile or overly rigid, which is why I establish rapport and connection with a client before we delve into deep or very meaningful topics.
