About My Clients
Through therapy with me, I hope to enrich one’s self-knowledge, develop self-compassion, and encourage them to live authentically, whatever that may mean. My practice is grounded in understanding and respecting differences in culture and identity. Specific concerns I work with are depression, anxiety, grief, identity concerns, processing emotions, and relationship difficulties. I also specialize in trauma work, particularly related to family of origin, racial trauma, or interpersonal violence.
My Background and Approach
I use scientifically supported interventions to guide all my interventions and seek to use them in a way that makes psychological concepts seem more down-to-earth. Too often do I find other professionals making relatively straightforward concepts difficult to understand for anyone outside of academia. For me, practicing skills, exploration, and other techniques should never be limited to just those who have a doctorate or other professional degree. My skills and techniques span a breadth of areas, ranging from traditional thought and feeling-based techniques, to encouraging exploration and re-creation of one’s narrative by whatever means are most helpful. All through this, I often try and connect clients back to themselves, be it psychologically, through one's body, or both. By understanding what we tell ourselves and directly working with our life story, I believe that we can often change how we move about the world.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
It is my belief that all should be welcome to therapy regardless of creed, belief, ethnicity, gender identity, or any other identifier that others may discriminate on. In my office, I (and the rest of my team!) support the LGBTQIA+ community, Black Lives Matter, local organizations that protect people of color, and will actively discuss racial justice with clients whenever. None of us exist in a vacuum, and I feel as though it would be foolish to not acknowledge and honor the differences between myself and my clients. With me, I hope that people find a partner in growth and shared values for a world that we hope to see one day, even if perhaps that world does not quite exist just yet.
