When what started out as your true calling ends up feeling like a burden, regaining your sense of passion and purpose may seem impossible. I help my clients identify their stressors (at work and away from it), what they may be contributing to the problem, and what stems from the systems in which they work and live, including the added strains of racism, sexism, ageism, and institutional betrayal, and then take action around these so that they can get back to loving what they do!
"The past is never dead. It's not even past." - William Faulkner Many of our most painful experiences of guilt, shame, and trauma have their roots not just in our early lives, but in the lives which preceded us. As a trauma specialist, I have found that deeply understanding one's personal, familial, and cultural history not only leads to greater compassion and forgiveness for self and others, but also can provide a roadmap for breaking free of painful and longstanding patterns.
Life transitions, even when positive, may challenge our sense of identity, purpose, and competency/self-efficacy. Coming to terms with the "new normal" is possible, but requires identifying and grieving what has been lost through the transition, and also discovering and celebrating what has been gained. I enjoy helping my clients to more fully integrate their past with their present and future, and to feel cohesive and confident even in times of change and states of flux.
