About My Clients
Do you feel anxious and depressed, especially when encountering discrimination? When we are members of a marginalized group, we can encounter the "isms" of racism, sexism, LGBTQ+ related antagonisms, etc., which can lead to experiences of oppression at work, school, and/or in your relationships. Do you feel as if no one understands your experiences with “the ism’s” (e.g., racism, sexism, etc.)? If so, I want you to know that you are not alone. Counseling can help.
My Background and Approach
I specialize in working with LGBTQ+, QTPOC, and racial stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. I counsel from a social justice framework to provide affirming care and help you work through your stressors. Furthermore, providing counseling from a social justice framework allows me to honor your personal narratives, experiences, and stories as someone who holds marginalized identities.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a gay and hispanic male, I have first-hand experiences with minority stress, growing up in a world where I was not valued or respected due to my skin color and sexual orientation. I hold strong values rooted in social justice and liberation for all who had to endure minority stress for just being themselves. In my personal experiences with therapy and healing, the best therapy experiences happened when I felt truly seen and heard by my counselor. Counseling that focuses on social justice and liberation focuses on you and your personal healing from oppression. Through our counseling work together, that's what I want to give to you as well.
