As an immigrant, I recognize that we are all a product of our culture and that cultures contextualize what we believe to be good, acceptable, appropriate or permissible. Cultures also define what success means, what importance failures deserve and our relationships with those around us. I will help my clients by understanding their cultural substructure and help them build solutions that are respectful of the aspects of their cultural tapestry they want to maintain.
The Hakomi method is an elegant model of treatment that respects the mind, body, spirit and eco system of the client. Through thoughtful conversation, an open invitation for honest inquiry and mindful attention to our inner and outer environments we can come into harmony with our life. This is often an excellent approach for the restlessness and anxious inhibition that some of my clients experience.
Sometimes our minds meander and wander in search of solutions to poorly defined problems. The role of solution focused therapy is to clear up confusion about what the problem is, define its characteristics, find applicable solutions and support you in exercising these solutions. I have worked many decades utilizing this strategy for a wide range of problems for my clients.
Life is just a series of transitions, we manage these pretty well typically, but some transitions are tough to handle and require a guide to help us adjust our thinking, emotions and behaviors for successful adaptation. I will consult with you previous to and after the adoption process to help you adapt to parenting an adopted child. I will help you with issues of Reactive Attachment Disorder and building a cohesive family unit.
