About My Clients
My focus is in working with clients who live in some way that is outside of a societal expectation or norm. They are queer folx, trans folx, changemakers and activists, those living with chronic illness, survivors of relational and systemic trauma; those with body types, cultural identities, family or relationship structures that differ from those represented frequently or positively in mainstream media.
My Background and Approach
I have 5+ years of experience working with intersectional youth and adults in identity development and community organizing both in Wisconsin and elsewhere; I bring elements of these experiences into my therapeutic process today. We will work together to sort out context and nuances in your experiences in order to identify areas you may be underutilizing your power for change and growth, maximize opportunities to collaborate with those around you and increase resilience, and accept unavoidable suffering that comes with being human in 2021. I utilize holistic, person-centered, ecosystems, and narrative approaches. I am committed to anti-racist and decolonized practice.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in collective liberation and bring that to every area of my life, including my work. As a trans/nonbinary, chronically ill person who grew up in NE Wisconsin myself, I understand the complex challenges that folx can face in processing and establishing and living in congruence with our identity. I believe that larger-scale social justice starts with personal and interpersonal work and healing. As individuals, I believe we are all doing the best we can with what we have, moment to moment. Moving beyond worn-out scripts and roles we have learned and inherited over a lifetime requires tremendous courage and compassion for ourselves and each other, and we owe it to our future selves to start taking those steps today.
