Anxiety is a normal response to stressful situations. But anxiety can persists and can even get worse over time. Anxiety disorders can impair a person’s ability to function at work, school, and in social situations. Anxiety can also affect a person’s relationships with family members and friends. Fortunately, its not a lifetime sentence and can be resolved with therapy.

Depression can cause a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It affects how you feel, think and behave and can make it difficulty to do normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living. Depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply "snap out" of it. But don't get discouraged. Most people with depression feel better with medication, psychotherapy or both.

Many traumatic events are of time-limited duration. However, in cases where people experience trauma for months or years at a time (like relationships with narcissists, toxic work politics), they develop difficulties with impulsivity, aggressiveness, alcohol/drug misuse, overwhelming emotions, dissociation and changes in one's identity. Therapy involves strengthening your trust in yourself and healing from the past so the patterns stop repeating.

Motivational Interviewing is based on the premise that we struggle when we are torn between 2 competing values or needs. As you explore what is getting in the way of fulfilling your goals, you'll discover new solutions. Resistance to solutions is welcomed and useful to explore.
