About My Clients
I work with adults, teenagers, and folks struggling in relationships on a multitude of difficulties online and in-person. While I have experience working with people who suffer from anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and trauma, I strive to make sure that humanity and uniqueness are valued. People who work with me should expect to come to know themselves in a new and multidimensional way; life is complicated, and circumstances that make us into who we are can also be complicated.
My Background and Approach
As a person, my background is one of a cisgender Black American man primarily raised in rural East Texas. Though some therapists may have the privilege to distance themselves from certain aspects of their identities, many of my identities are visible and present in the room through my appearance. They also inform my bearing and my practice. Training wise, my background is one of a generalist: I've worked in a range of settings such as training clinics, VA hospitals, victim services, and community mental health centers. Through this mix of experiences, I've come to develop an integrative approach that comes to try and help a person know themselves, their relationship to self, and their relationship to others. I am primarily rooted in psychodynamic and humanistic approaches, but I utilize interventions from CBT, ACT, and DBT as appropriate for each individual.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that the political landscape is scary for all of us, especially for folks with multiple, marginalized identities. Though I may not have the power to individually fix it, I believe we can work together to better survive these times. I believe that it is important to utilize collective action to force unjust systems to change. I believe that you are capable of healing, you just need the right place, right time, and the right support. I believe that you and I can work together to make this the right place, right time, and the proper support. I believe change is possible. If you don't, I hope you and I can chat about why that might be. I believe you matter.
