My Background and Approach

Hola! My name is Evelia (she/her/Ella), and I am a bilingual first-generation Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University in NYC and my B.A. in Social Work from San Francisco State University. As a biracial, bicultural woman of color born and raised in the Bay Area, I bring a unique perspective shaped by my experiences as the daughter of immigrants. I primarily support BIPOC and Latinx individuals who face challenges such as perfectionism and imposter syndrome. I approach our work together through an anti-racist lens, recognizing and inviting discussions around issues that affect us both personally and collectively. I encourage us to explore past experiences and the cultural and family stories that have shaped who we are. My approach incorporates feminist psychology, anti-racist interventions, and trauma-informed coping strategies.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a Woman of Color Therapist and Anxiety Therapist in Oakland, I believe healing begins when you feel culturally understood, emotionally safe, and fully seen. Anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, high achievement pressure, and burnout often develop as adaptive survival strategies. For many women of color and children of immigrants, these patterns are shaped by family expectations, intergenerational trauma, racism, immigration stress, and systemic pressures. These are not personal flaws; they are responses to lived experience. I believe therapy must honor cultural identity and context. Mental health does not exist in isolation from race, gender, family history, or societal expectations. Naming these realities in therapy reduces shame and helps clients better understand their nervous system, emotional patterns, and relationships.
