About My Clients

My clients often struggle with disordered eating and/or trauma symptoms. Signs of disordered eating include constantly thinking about food, feeling guilty about eating or exercising, restricting or binging, or experiencing distress caused by weight or body shape. People who experienced trauma can feel haunted by the event, feeling extreme guilt or shame, experiencing nightmares or flashbacks, or avoiding experiences that trigger these feelings or remind them of the event.

My Background and Approach

To try to decrease this distress and better quality of life, I use relational and client centered approaches. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship and my clients’ experiences in our conversations. I also use skills from cognitive behavioral therapy and its derivatives, such as ACT, to inform my interventions. It’s extremely important to me to acknowledge the systemic and cultural influences on clients to ensure that our work is applicable to your everyday life as you do not exist in a vacuum. Prior to working in an outpatient setting, I worked in school, residential, and partial hospitalization environments, and have experience working with people stepping down from higher levels of care. I am also trained in a PTSD treatment, CPT. CPT is a short-term, structured evidence-based treatment that is very different from open-ended talk therapy, but might be just what you're looking for. Please let me know if you're interested in learning more about this specific treatment!

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am not much of a sharer in sessions. Clinically: I don't self-disclose frequently. You are more than welcome to ask me questions, though! It is my responsibility to determine my own boundaries and assess what is therapeutically supportive of you. I do enjoy when clients bring meaningful things into our conversations (like poetry or art) and when appropriate I do like to share ideas that are meaningful to me (Terry Pratchett books and bell hooks quotes). I believe in hope. I believe people can change. I believe that you deserve a therapist that is a good fit for you. Something that I say to my new clients is to please let me know if things feel weird between us. If we can fix it, let's fix it! And if we don't think we can, then I will literally give you referrals to someone else. My priority is to get you support, even if it's not from me. If you think I can support you, though, please reach out and let's find out.
