About My Clients
Parenting is the hardest and most important job out there! Every parent child relationship is unique. I offer individualized therapeutic support for all families in any stage of their journey including: expecting, post-partum, and those in the throes of navigating their little ones' big feelings and behaviors. Parenthood can be a source of great delight as well as bring up past traumas, anxiety, and depression. I offer support and expertise to navigate these challenges.
My Background and Approach
Over my career, I have worked with many different family constellations, including foster care and adoption, and the range of stresses and traumas that families encounter. In addition to supporting parents individually, I am trained in Child Parent Psychotherapy. This modality differs from traditional child therapy in that both child and parent participate in therapy together, focusing on the relationship as a source of resilience for both. My dance therapy background helps highlight the value of nonverbal attunement. I also have trained in various modalities to address trauma in young children and adults.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I strongly believe that every parent wants the best for their child and for their relationship with their child. I work with your family to create a therapeutic environment where mutual understanding and healing can occur. My own childhood was a mix of feeling deeply loved and not having the tools or environment to express my feelings, and therefore not always getting what I needed emotionally. My experiences connecting my body and mind through dance, led me to study dance/movement therapy. It was in these studies, that I learned to integrate the importance of expressing myself (feeling my feelings) with my desire to help children (and therefore parents) have the tools of self-expression and navigating emotions as early as possible, allowing for deep and connected relationships. These relationships are the most important protection we have when facing life's challenges, and therefore vital to the wellbeing of family units, and in turn, our larger world.
