About My Clients
I work with individuals, couples, and families across a range of issues to achieve greater emotional, psychological, and social well-being, not just alleviate symptoms. I have experience with anxiety, depression, couple/family/relationship issues, PTSD, substance use, personality disorders, minority stress, LGBTQIA relationships, spiritual/religious/existential issues including religious trauma, anger management, and co-parenting.
My Background and Approach
Many people come to therapy unsure of what problems are impacting their lives while others have done therapy in the past and/or are seeking treatment for a specific issue. Whatever your circumstances, I aim to understand your unique goals and strive to help you achieve them. I often use the power of storytelling and understand that each person I work with has many, important stories to tell. I help clients make meaning of these stories, empower them to live with greater agency and authenticity, and highlight negative patterns that can get in the way of living in accordance with their values. I pay attention to the influence of power dynamics on your life. I work with everyone a little differently, based on what healing and well-being means to them. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that you (not me) are the expert of your own life. I work hard to stay curious about your experiences and avoid assumptions about who you are. I believe that individuals are not the problem but rather that problems show up between people, or between a person and the social systems in which they interact. I believe we all deserves dignity and respect. I believe we all have work to do. I believe that everyone who is suffering deserves opportunities to heal from that suffering. I believe that we are inevitably influenced by forces other than ourselves. I believe everyone has the capacity for positive change.
