Working on the psychiatric inpatient unit has taught me a lot about anxiety. Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and can be beneficial in some situations. It can alert us to dangers and help us prepare and pay attention. Anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness and involve excessive fear or anxiety.

A clinical diagnosis of infertility is defined as trying to conceive over a 12 month period without success. Approximately 35% of the time it’s a female problem and 35% it’s a male problem. The remaining 30% percent is either a problem related to both the male and female, or what is known as “unexplained infertility.” There can be lots of shame around this topic and a sense of failure so many choose not to talk about it with friends and family.

Otherwise known as major depressive disorder or clinical depression, is a common and serious mood disorder. Those who suffer from depression experience persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness and lose interest in activities they once enjoyed. Aside from the emotional problems caused by depression, individuals can also present with physical symptoms such as chronic pain or digestive issues. To be diagnosed with depression, symptoms must be present for at least two weeks.

CBT allows us to evaluate your thought process and how this can impact you mood, behavior and actions. Replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts and try to identify the source of these thoughts.
