During individual therapy, clients often wish to discuss how they can strengthen their premarital or marital relationships. I assist clients with exploring communication, forgiveness, and conflict resolution and anger management techniques. I help clients to explore solo self care AND partnered relationship-building activities. Attention is given to interdependence within a healthy significant relationship.

During my career, I have given a lot of professional support to clients who have been faced with complicated and uncomplicated grief reactions. I am particularly interested in assisting with spousal loss or grief tied to the pandemic. Clients are invited to go on a journey through grief at their own pace. I will never give clients the message that working through grief has to be done in a certain timeframe. As many have experienced firsthand, grief does not have an expiration date.

I have worked with clients for over a decade who struggle with alcohol and substance misuse. Clients are too beautifully complex to be reduced to their addictive behaviors. I help clients to see the contributing factors to the onset and maintenance of their addictions. Clients have a safe space to learn tools to be successful within harm reduction or abstinence approaches.

CBT is an evidence-based approach that helps clients to look at their thoughts that are closely connected to the experience of certain emotions. Clients can become more aware of their thoughts during activating situations. Through greater awareness, clients can begin to modify their thoughts in a way to arrive at more balanced thoughts.

MI is a supportive approach when clients are in the pre-contemplation, contemplation, and preparation stages of change. Through rapport with the therapist, clients can look at areas where change is possible. It is a very empowering approach, as clients recognize that it is up to them to make changes. By recognizing that they are actively choosing their choices in life, clients recognize that they are ultimately responsible for the rewards and consequences that they experience in life.

Psychodynamic therapy can help clients to see the impact of earlier life experiences on their patterns of relating with the self, others, and the world. This can be particularly helpful when clients are wanting to modify certain patterns that they identify as potentially maladaptive or harmful to current relationships.
