About My Clients

Vision loss isn't just about your eyes; it affects your whole life. Everyday tasks become challenging. You get easily frustrated with things that never bothered you before. You feel alone or disconnected from your loved ones. You might feel like you are no longer yourself. Vision loss may be one of the most vulnerable experiences in your life. You deserve to have your concerns listened to and to feel understood. I believe that's where healing begins.

My Background and Approach

My whole-person approach to addressing vision loss starts with listening. You are the expert on your body. I show up to be present with you without judgment. As I earn your trust, we develop a collaborative partnership. It's through this collaborative partnership that transformation occurs. Together we identify priorities and what's most pivotal for you to experience a meaningful life with vision loss. We work hard together to assemble the providers, services, and resources needed to create your low vision team and support network; ensure you understand what's going on with your vision and how to use it better; normalize the negative emotions that regularly come up with vision loss and develop your competence for dealing with them. Vision loss brings you to my services, but I don't just address your eyes; we take a whole-person approach together. *My certification as a low vision therapist allows me to serve clients across the US and internationally.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe: Learning to manage vision-loss stress is as important as getting the right prescription glasses, adaptive devices, and low vision technology; it's key to feeling like yourself again. Everyone experiences trauma and grief, even if it's not vision loss, and if we don't address our pain, it shows up elsewhere. Vision loss can potentially impact the body similarly to trauma, and a trauma-informed approach to vision loss is critical. Everyone with vision loss benefits from a multidisciplinary vision rehabilitation team. Life coaching brings a valuable element to low vision rehabilitation by addressing behavioral, emotional, and physical changes. Ableism and ageism are as wrong as racism and prejudice in all their forms. Low vision care should be client-centered and collaborative, equitable and easily accessed, based on the most current science combined with clinical wisdom and compassion, goal-driven versus equipment or technology-driven AND fun!
