The experience of trauma can be life shattering and confusing. In my experience, I have worked with those suffering from PTSD to rebuild trust, find security in themselves and the world, and decrease the often debilitating reactions to triggering experiences. As I move forth in my practice PTSD is at the center of my focus, skill building, and research.
Self-esteem often is often stolen by the desire to fill the world's needs before allowing your self the space to fill your own. Worth, value, purpose, and ability are all at question when self-esteem is attacked. In my experience I have worked with many to rebuild a sense of empowerment, self-awareness, self-respect, and most of all self-trust. This journey often becomes the foundation for which ongoing contentment and fulfillment is built.
"If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present" Lao Tzu Anxiety is developed by the mind's desire to predict the future. Because our brains prioritize self-preservation, we get caught in a loop of fearing what MAY happen. My work with anxiety focuses on building tools to remain present and mindful, trusting that you are capable of solving life's problems as they arise.
ACT is the foundation of my practice and focused on taking action toward values as a pursuit of wellness. Often, people fight for many years to rid themselves of what others have labeled "malfunctioned," "abnormal," or "maladaptive," Through ACT, I approach clients as people within the spectrum of normal human experiance. Recognizing the mind as a tool and the self as the one experiencing and observing present life.
