About My Clients
While I enjoy working with all populations. My most extensive knowledge and experience is in working with people who have suffered trauma and who experience anxiety disorders as a result of their trauma experiences. I also have special training in providing therapy services to individuals who have been diagnosed with personality disorders. I have an intensive passion for working with transgender folks and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
My Background and Approach
I worked in the social services field for over 10 years. I've been heavily involved in the child welfare system as an Adoption Program Manager, and later as Foster Care Supervisor; as well as providing therapy services to children in foster care. As a therapist, beyond working with children in foster care, I've also done crisis work with the local community health center and at a maximum security men's prison. Working in these different types or settings had been a blessing because I've had the opportunity to work with so many different groups of people and individuals. As a result of doing crisis work, I began training and specializing in the treatment of personality disorders.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I started my own practice because I felt the focus within behavioral health agencies was billing. There was always a push to bill for more hours. This is never what therapy was supposed to be about and I found the pressure to focus on billing to be quite soul crushing. It was at this point that I decided if I couldn't start my own practice, I'd need to start looking for a new career choice. Now, I am able to focus on my clients needs and have much better opportunities to tailor my services to my individual clients. I believe a therapist's goal should be to work themselves out of a job. Being an effective therapist means helping clients to develop skills and meet their goals, to get to a point in their lives where they don't need a therapist anymore. This is the ultimate measurement of being a successful therapist.
