About My Clients
I serve adolescents, adults and couples from diverse backgrounds with a specialty in relational distress, trauma, irritability and anger and depression and anxiety. Often times people will come to me not knowing exactly what is wrong, but aware that something needs to change in their lives. Together we can figure out the root of the problem and work towards a life that feels easier and full of much more hope.
My Background and Approach
I hold a Masters from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate from Widener University. My experience includes a past variety of settings including college counseling, outpatient psychotherapy, addictions facilities, couples psychotherapy and leadership and development practices. My approach is what the psychology field describes as 'eclectic' which means that I have been trained in and practice multiple types of interventions. Different problems requiring listening with a different ear and applying a specific tool. That being said, my main orientation is psychodynamic which is a theory that understands people as complex and emphasizes understanding all the factors that cause them to think and feel the way that they do. This understanding in the context of a safe relationship where you do not feel judged can cause healing and new ways or relating to yourself, others and the world.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that change can take time as it is very likely you did not become the way you are overnight. That being said, I am of the opinion that when you find the right therapist, a sense of hope can immediately improve your sense that things can get better. I've been described as warm, down-to-earth, practical, and humorous, when appropriate. My specialty lies in helping people sort through family dynamics, better understand longstanding anxiety and depression and working with couples.
