I work primarily from a relational psychotherapy approach - meaning an approach of therapy that is focused on how relationships affect our daily experience of life. This approach in therapy allows me to collaborate with you by looking at past and present relationships and use that to guide our sessions to find ways to understand thought patterns, feelings, and perceptions of yourself and of others.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) combines cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness strategies in order to help individuals better understand and manage their thoughts and emotions in order to achieve relief from feelings of distress
I work together with clients to unravel negative thought patterns, shift harmful and compulsive behaviors, and to find a sense of resilience and self-esteem throughout their journey. In order to shift towards a more positive and loving body image, we must start with negative self talk, harmful behaviors, and find different coping skills to deal with the stress and pressure of our family, friends, social media, and the world at large.
I have helped clients work on codependency issues in regards to substance misuse personally or in their partner(s), working on creating clear boundaries, creating a sense of self and sense of independence, working on self-compassion and forgiveness.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Relational Psychotherapy most often when working with clients on calming stress and anxiety symptoms. I have experience working with severe anxiety that ultimately leads clients to unforeseen problems such as procrastination, low self-esteem, panic, perfectionism, overthinking, trouble setting boundaries, difficulties with self care and self love.
