Much of Gottman method is education, but couples must then take what they've learned in sessions and integrate it into their relationships in order to change. Gottman method is research-based, fun, and highly effective.
People come to therapy to get better. Of course, background and history to problems are important to talk about in order to gain insight and understanding, but I believe "getting better" comes from solutions to problems, rather than the problems themselves.
