About My Clients
Life is overwhelming for so many people. Between COVID, racism, politics, work, and relationships, it all feels like too much. We all have our ways of coping. Maybe yours is scrolling social media, food, drinking, or using drugs. Maybe life has gotten so overwhelming that the only viable option seems to be to not keep living anymore. When you disconnect, your family and friends feel hurt, but they don't get it. You want to be present, and you want your life to be worth being present for.
My Background and Approach
I focus on on treatment approaches that will help you heal instead of just cope. You are the expert on your own experience. My approach meets you where you are, assesses your goals, and finds your strengths. When working with things like addiction and suicidality, the question is not "why the addiction?" or "Why suicide?" The question is, "what is the pain that makes addiction or suicidality seem like the only option?" I have successfully treated various traumas from sexual assault, domestic violence in childhood, at-home narcissism, and body dysmorphia. I also have a strong background and understanding of Evangelical culture, purity culture, and religious deconstruction. I use evidence-based techniques including EMDR, somatic experiencing, and internal family systems. Together we will help your body tell your story in a way that allows you to be free of your past, present in the moment, and hopeful for the future.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I grew up in white, hetero-normative Evangelical culture that included purity culture narratives and a strong undercurrent of white supremacy. I have deconstructed a lot of my beliefs around Evangelicalism, racism, heterosexism, sizism, sexism, and ableism. While I do still identify as a Christian, I believe deconstruction is a natural part of spiritual development that often results in differing beliefs than my own. I believe it is crucial to continue doing my internal work on many of my -isms, and honoring others for where they are and the bravery as they begin to explore their cultural narratives. I believe that recognizing the harm that has come to marginalized populations and advocating for change through movements such as Black Lives Matter and LGBTQIA+ advocacy reflects the heart of Christ.
