About My Clients
Those that I work with have been impacted by various forms of adversity, loss, long-term stress, and/or trauma. To be a bit more specific, though, I particularly enjoy working with populations of folks who are going through a variety of life transitions & stressors, are curious to learn more about how experiences in their environments of origin impact their present-day experiences, are in need of learning how to set boundaries for themselves, &/or are experiencing grief from a specific loss.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic approach is a combination of evidenced-based practices, such as Person-Centered (joining you as a collaborative partner in your process & honoring you as the master of your own life), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, & behaviors), Psychodynamic (learning about how your experiences growing up within your family & environment of origin impacted you including your current views of self, others, & the world around you), Strengths based (focusing on your innate resourcefulness and strengths - yes, we all have them!), Mindfulness based techniques (learning how to connect with the here-and-the-now), as well as trauma-informed approaches. I am also particularly drawn to Existential practices where I enjoy being able to sit with my clients in the sometimes uncomfortable "grey zones" of the human experience where we don't always have clear cut answers as well as supporting them in finding+defining their own life meaning.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I was born & raised in rural Southwest Georgia, where access to therapy & mental health services was little-to-none. I witnessed first-hand the detrimental effects of lack of access to mental health care on generations of people. Therefore, I offer virtual sessions for those in my hometown area of Southwest Georgia & surrounding counties in addition to in-person & virtual sessions for those in the Atlanta area. I am committed to continually educating myself on social & racial matters so that I can provide culturally competent care to clients of all backgrounds regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity & expression, race, ethnicity, ability status, socio-economic background, religion, & body shape and size. As a therapist & a fellow human traveler in life who has done my own personal therapeutic work, I greatly believe in the transformative power of therapy. I would be honored to walk alongside you in your therapeutic journey. Shoot me an email or give me a call & let's begin!
