About My Clients
My client is a couple or individual that is ready for deep emotional work, who will bring authenticity to our interactions, and is eager for change that heals. You might be a couple who feels trapped in a pattern of conflict. You might be a teen or adult who carries the weight of past abuse or trauma. Perhaps you are overwhelmed by persistent anxiety, or preoccupied with what might have been, or you have come to a place of not clearly knowing who you are anymore. I am here for all of it!
My Background and Approach
Understanding your emotional world is the first step to unlearning the defense mechanisms and behavioral patterns that have arisen over time. Often we have learned habits of interaction that harm more than hurt, and limiting or negative self-beliefs are reinforced every time relationships suffer as a result. Anxiety, paralysis, overthinking, frequent conflict, self-criticism, self-sabotage, and the biological threat felt as a result of trauma all are commonly at play when we have learned to disavow, hide, or flee from our authentic emotions. These complex barriers to healthy relationships with ourselves and our loved ones that have grown over time sometimes need a professional's perspective and guidance so that solutions can collaboratively be found and new ways of interaction can be practiced. I am here to provide exactly that professional support from an empathetic and non-judgmental place. My approach utilizes emotionally focused tools to achieve acceptance, cohesion, and choice.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
While all persons share many common needs and abilities, I believe that each individual on earth is unique. Each of us finds connection in different ways, implementing different levels of involvement in families and communities. Our unique pasts lead to differing meaning-making around events, ourselves, and relationships with others, and as a result, each individual’s priority of needs looks different. In my life I have heavily relied on my feeling called to create change through community. Past careers include that of a preschool teacher, where my community was each individual family I got to know. I spent time abroad as a researcher and speech writer for a diplomat who was focused on war refugees and victims of genocide. I have volunteered in four countries with vulnerable populations affected severely by socioeconomic injustice, war, and both racial and gender-based violence. Other populations I have actively supported are survivors of childhood abuse and religious trauma.
