About My Clients
I value serving clients dealing with a profound loss- whether that be the grief for a loved one, a struggle with identity after a major change, or ending a significant relationship. My clients are normal, everyday people, going through normal, everyday things. I help people find purpose, manage loneliness, and seek clarity. I employ an individualized and evidenced based approach in my work to help you deal with that 'gut punch' of a loss.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor in North Carolina. My focus on loss first developed following my internship at a Cancer center. I worked with grief, which was a given, but also realized the loss of identity or of significant relationships are also forms of grief. I utilize an eclectic approach in my sessions, but most often pull from person centered approaches, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and narrative therapy. I also am trained in EMDR, which I used to help clients who are stuck with maladaptive memories or thoughts.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to counseling. I believe in collaborating with my clients to find the best treatment approach for them. I believe in cultural humility, meaning that there is no way for me to know and understand the experiences of people with different identities than I have. I believe it is important to listen and trust the client when it comes to the experiences in their own lives. I believe it is important to remain a lifelong learner and aim for both personal and professional growth.
