Bringing a contemplative approach to therapy for 12+ years, I founded Water & Stone in 2015 to connect people with mindfully based services.
Therapist in New York, NY
No experience necessary! Creative arts therapy comes in the form of art, music, movement, or drama therapy and people of all ages can benefit from any of the modalities. Each creative arts therapist is also a trained psychotherapist/talk therapist, so you will experience a combination of talking and creating depending on what you have come to therapy for and your comfort level. Not having to rely on words and having another way to express or explore challenges and experiences has great benefits.
Mindfulness is a popular buzz word right now and used in many arenas. When integrated into therapy correctly it can support lasting change and offers new tools for people to create a more balanced and aware life. My training to become a therapist was done at a Buddhist based University in Colorado (Naropa University) where we learned for the full 3 years how mindfulness, meditation, and contemplative approaches enhance and can coincide with psychology and psychotherapy.
Part of the reason for starting my company came through the understanding that I cannot help everyone in a culturally aware way as a heterosexual white woman. Having people work with a therapist they feel connected and safe with is the first priority, so real support and change can occur. The only way that is possible is through connecting a diverse group of therapists and offering the choice to the person seeking support. They can ask for what they need and find the person who fits those needs.
There are many things that women experience differently then men and having someone who understands and can offer support can be life changing. Between myself and the other women in my practice, we have experience with divorce, lgbtq+, fertility, postpartum, and much more. I believe both individual work where you can focus solely on yourself as well as group therapy where you connect with others in a new way and heal in community can be extremely helpful. We'll help you find your path.
Anxiety is only natural when experienced in small doses. When it is constant or keeping a person from fully engaging in their life, it's time to find support and someone who can help you reclaim a balanced, grounded, and meaningful way of living. Especially in the fast paced NYC world it might feel normal to be anxious much of the time. What if, instead of that constant underlying feeling you could take a breath and feel more in charge or even relaxed and happy about your day to day life?
Fertility issues and challenges are present in so many lives and yet, it's a topic that is kept quiet. Through both my own personal journey and hearing so many others who have gone through these experiences and journeys alone, I have begun to offer therapy, support groups and space for people to come together in community. There is no need to feel isolated or alone. Wouldn't it feel better to know you have people who can relate, understand, and be there for the highs and lows of your journey?
