About My Clients
I specialize in anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, phobias, and panic disorder. I enjoy working with women, members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and neurodivergent folks. As someone with a long history in the arts and DIY music scenes, I connect well with creative types, outsiders, weirdos, and those with niche or subcultural interests.
My Background and Approach
I went to graduate school to become a therapist in my late 30s after many years bouncing between odd jobs, often in the service industry, and I now hold an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Though my undergraduate degree is in English, my own struggles with poor mental health and the desire to help others led me to this field; these experiences inform my approach and wisdom as a practitioner. Prior to graduation, I completed a year-long clinical internship at Seton Hill University's Counseling Center, providing individual therapy to undergraduate students with a wide variety of presenting issues.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I prioritize showing up to sessions warmly and authentically, with a conversational and relaxed style that incorporates humor and even fun! My approach is collaborative and flexible, meaning I do not prescribe one-size-fits-all solutions. I see clients as experts on their own lives, and my role as a supporter or guide, enabling clients to find their own paths and design their own lives. I value social justice, intersectionality, cultural competency, humility, and compassion. I utilize a systemic, holistic, and integrative approach to mental health-- we get to where we are through a combination of sociocultural, genetic, environmental, and psychological factors, and thus a blend of wellness practices and modalities are needed to move towards healing. It is my top priority to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive space for all.
