About My Clients
My clients come from all walks of life but share the common denominator of wanting to experience greater wholeness, freedom, and authenticity. Whether it is sexual dysfunction as a result of Purity Culture indoctrination, mistrust of self from high control religion, or complete bewilderment about why they keep experiencing the same relationship dysfunctions, I can provide a safe space to unpack, examine, and re-organize the baggage that's been weighing you down.
My Background and Approach
In addition to an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I hold a holistic health coaching certificate from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (in New York City), a Liberal Arts degree from Belmont University (emphasis on writing and communications), and am a certified yoga instructor. For nearly two decades, I've worked with large corporations, small businesses, universities, and non-profits throughout the eastern US to coordinate wellness programs, teach yoga classes, and present workshops on a variety of topics related to physical and mental health & wellness. When I was 12 my hippie parents joined a high-control religious group. I witnessed, first-hand, the damaging effects of manipulation and control through fear-based tactics that eventually resulted in the death of my brother. Although it would take me nearly 25 years to fully leave that environment, I count my time there as valuable because of the insight and empathy it has given me for other survivors.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In my early years, my parents were social-justice minded and raised my brother and me with that intentionality. Some of my earliest memories include protesting the Vietnam War and attending demonstrations for Civil Rights and Women's Rights in the 1960s. It left a positive impact on me. I believe in a person-centered approach to therapy, recognizing there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all method to supporting a client. Each of us is unique. That being said, I often see clients who have come out of high-control religious systems have difficulty determining what *they* want/what *they* need due to years or even a lifetime of being taught to not trust themselves. When this is the case, I usually begin with helping the client cultivate a sense of self-trust and developing the ability to hear their own "still small voice." From personal experience, I know that this can feel daunting, but it is not impossible.
