About My Clients

Much of my work has been with queer and trans folks centered on things like processing emotion, stress, grief, and trauma; exploring relationships to self, others, and substances; and building a sense of ease and connection. I look forward to working with you on whatever is most generative and supportive for your whole, complex, messy, beautiful self.

My Background and Approach

I see my job as hosting a space for you to show up exactly as you are. This can be difficult, especially when it seems life is happening too fast to process or you feel stuck. I don't assume coming to therapy means there is something wrong with you--there is just something powerful about having a regular time set aside to check in with yourself. As a therapist, I can provide structure and support for that practice, whether you are processing trauma, moving through a crisis, want to make big changes, or just want space to be. Our sessions can take many forms including talking through life experiences (big and small, past and present) and experiential somatic work (e.g. exploring how emotions or experiences show up in the body, engaging in different types of movement). I have trained in Somatic Experiencing, MI, DBT, yoga, and approach substance use through a harm reduction lens.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I go by Elle or Lauren--either is fine! I am a queer, feminist therapist and my approach to therapy (and life) is relational and rooted in anti-oppressive values. I believe that sitting with emotion, living authentically, and connecting with others is political work. I believe my most important qualification as a therapist is actively doing my own work including participating in my own therapy. Before becoming a therapist, I got my PhD in philosophy and got to write and teach about emotion, feminism, and ethics. I also worked as a case manager with young queer and trans adults experiencing housing instability.
