About My Clients
I welcome clients from many backgrounds and belief systems. Many of the clients I work with outwardly present as put together and having most things under control. However, when we take a deeper look, they may be just barely treading water. Many of them are navigating burnout, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, or identity and role shifts. They want to better understand their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and how their experiences have shaped them into who they are today.
My Approach to Helping
I have a background in individual and couples work. I received my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from North Carolina Central University, and my bachelor's degree in psychology from UNC Charlotte. My therapeutic career started in a psychosocial rehabilitation center, providing individual and group counseling to high-risk adults. Now, I primarily work with individuals and couples ranging in age from late adolescence to adulthood. Many clients believe that a counselors job is to make them feel better. While this may be the wanted overall outcome of counseling, my role as a counselor is to aid the client in exploring their emotions and experiences to better understand their impact and provide insight as to why certain things may be coming up. My goal is never to "fix you", but to help you build insight into yourself and approach life more deliberately.
More About the People I Treat
I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and change at any point in their lives. I have some clients who have been in counseling for years, and others who are taking the first step in their counseling journey. It is my view that we can all unlearn certain habits or behaviors that do not serve our best interest, and gain healthy ones that can take their place. After completing a Neurodivergent Competency Training last year, I have enjoyed working with individuals who have ADHD, Autism, or some form of neurodivergent traits. Along with neurodivergence, I have years of experience working with those who have anxiety, depression, or trauma. I understand how these things can take control and make you feel as though your life is being directed by them. I'd like to help you take back that control!
