The majority of clients with whom I work have developed mental health issues because they have been treated abusively by people or systems. An important aspect of treating trauma is taking time to build the therapeutic relationship before moving on to treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I take my work seriously, and engage in regular supervision groups in order to ensure I am adherent to the EMDR model.
People who have had difficult childhoods, relationship, or workplaces often internalize their feelings as a way to cope since sharing those feelings may not have been safe in those situations. This can create a great deal of anxiety and stress. I work to help people slow down and examine their thoughts and feelings in order to better understand themselves. Understanding the origin of a thought can help people challenge old unhelpful beliefs that contribute to stress.
I completed the Certificate Program in Cognitive and Behavioral Interventions at Boston University School of Social work in 2012.
The majority of people with whom I work have co-occurring mental health issues as a result of having gone through traumatic events. I use a blend of evidenced based practices, including EMDR, in order to help people heal from painful experiences.
People often internalize their feelings because they have been in situations in their childhood, relationships, or workplaces where it wasn't safe to share their feelings. Unfortunately, the feelings don't disappear when we push them down, and it can lead to ongoing feelings of tension and anxiety. I work to help people better understand and cope with their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy strategies.
