About My Clients

My clients often begin therapy citing anxious and/or depressive symptoms tied to complex concerns challenging their pursuits of meaningful living. Some have difficulties managing stress related to their relationships, work/study, and/or identity. Some struggle with the loss of someone or something important. Others feel rudderless, uncertain about how to steer their life in a more fulfilling direction. I have also had success helping people with past negative therapy/psychiatric experiences.

My Background and Approach

As a clinical psychologist trained in generalist practice I feel competent to address a wide range of psychological struggles. I specialize in navigating existential concerns such as questions of identity, experiences of meaninglessness, anxiety related to death and mortality, and balancing freedom with responsibility. I am skilled in helping people navigate grief and loss, communication struggles, relationship challenges, and perfectionistic tendencies. I value a collaborative approach that is as non-pathologizing as possible, preferring instead to help people define their struggles and strengths in ways that make sense to them. I seek to fully embrace the complexity of being human and aim to encourage clients to be more authentically themselves through warm, curious, and enthusiastic meetings. My constant pursuit in therapy is allowing the person I am working with to be themselves as much as possible and, in doing so, help them become who they want to become.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Because I am a firm believer in the importance of a close, trusting therapeutic relationship with as equalized power as possible, I invite my clients to ask any questions they have about me as a fellow human being. Parts of my identity I am usually asked about include: my agnosticism, my secular spirituality, my being a musician, my being a member of the queer community, my political leftness, and my appreciation of those who identify and/or are identified as "weird." I make efforts to support marginalized folx through actions both big and small. I believe in a shared humanness that allows connection despite complex differences and I value each person I come into contact with as unique, multifaceted beings worthy of awe.
