About My Clients
I serve folks looking to broaden emotional awareness and improve ability to communicate wants and feelings. Many of my clients are unaware of their relational patterns that inhibit harmony in their partnership(s) or act as barriers to social relationships. Assisting clients to locate connections between their family-of-origin experiences and cultural exposure often times helps demystify that 'thing' standing in the way of feeling content, fulfilled, seen, or empowered.
My Background and Approach
I hold a Ph.D in Counselor Education and Counseling, am a Board-Certified Telemental Health provider, and am licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in Idaho, Oregon and Washington State. My theoretical orientation is eclectic in nature, combining a number of styles, theories and approaches to meet each individual’s need. I offer space to process through acute or residual feelings (person-centered), explore how identities and environment facilitate or impede movement through the world (feminism), and highlight themes of meaning, connection, and freedom (existential). My goal is to use these approaches to benefit therapeutic progress, and to help apply new learning to outside contexts in order to conclude counseling.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the power of community. I believe in critical analysis of the status quo. I think raising kids is the ultimate social justice opportunity. And I believe people are doing the best with what they got. For the past four years I have been on the Board of a PNW non-profit focused on LGBTGEQIAP+ wellness. Relationships are important to me, both professionally and personally, and I try hard to maintain solid connections. I was a collegiate athlete %@ years ago :) and enjoy when I get the chance to coach kids. Happy to share more if we get the opportunity to connect.
