About My Clients

Are you living with excessive worry? Sadness? Recent loss or life transition(s)? Relationship challenges? Workplace stresses? LGBTQIA or other minority identity? Family of origin concerns? Substance abuse or overuse? Chronic illness? I welcome anyone into my practice who is interested in making sustainable life changes, no matter what you're going through. There's not just one way to make change and together, we'll create a safe space for you to focus on what's most important to you, Here & NOW.

My Background and Approach

I've been lucky to work with a diverse client population in a variety of clinical settings and specialities including private practice, children & families, adolescents, young adults, healthcare, rural and urban, inpatient and outpatient, dual diagnoses, LGBTQIA, and community mental health across three states and the District of Columbia. All of my experiences over the last 15 years have deepened my understanding of the regional, socioeconomic, cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity where I live and my empathy for clients. Using a combination of techniques rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Empowerment Theory, we'll focus on creating changes in your life one goal at a time. We'll focus on developing new, behavioral skills to help manage whatever is going on for you, Here & NOW.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My interest in clinical social work is rooted in my own experiences with anxiety and depression. A lifelong sufferer of generalized anxiety and associated depressive episodes, I found my professional calling as a clinical social worker to increase access to behavioral health services and share my knowledge, both personally and professionally, to help others. Social justice is one of my highest values and also a common theme in my work. This focus stems from my personal experiences with bullying and discrimination as a gay person and witnessing the injustices facing so many people I've worked with. I work hard to practice this value in my words and actions both inside and outside the therapy room. I'm grateful to all the people I get to help and the opportunities I've had to learn from them.
