About My Clients
I work with individuals who are experiencing crisis: a lot of us associate these with midlife, or increasingly, quarterlife, but they can happen at any stage. I believe life crises are a sign of a deep need for greater meaning, often in response to years spent trying to satisfy ill-fitting roles society forces upon us. I offer a safe place to explore why you're unhappy, help you recognize what you want instead, and find the courage to make a change.
My Background and Approach
I'm a person-centered therapist with strong roots in feminist therapy: even for those of us with a great deal of privilege, I believe that systemic injustice contributes to the ways we are led into dissatisfying lives. I rely on lessons from Interpersonal Neurobiology to help my clients better understand their emotions, but also strongly believe in leaving room for the numinous: sometimes deep gut wisdom holds the answers before we know exactly how. I use a lot of humor in session (mostly Dad Jokes, sorry), and prize my clients' inner wisdom above all.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I've done a lot of personal work around healthy masculinity, which I believe is closely tied to my ongoing efforts to be an ally. I have an intersectional perspective on mental health (among other things), and feel that that framework is incredibly valuable even - maybe especially - for people like myself with a lot of privilege. As a therapist I strive to learn from the lived experience of those around me, and I've found that this helps me to be a competent, caring, and effective clinician with clients for whom that experience is different than my own. I've also done a good amount to educate myself about women's rights, racial justice, queer culture, and trans issues. I'm poly-knowledgeable and familiar with a broad swath of counterculture , also.
