Everything in life is relational. From your nervous system, to digestive system, and respiratory system, they're all in relationship to one another. Relationships are the corner stone of our human experience. We're hard wired for relationships with our limbic system. However, in modern times, we lack the tools, time, or knowledge on how to maintain a healthy relationship with others. A mindful approach to relationships and marriage can help you re-establish a healthy connection and wellbeing.
Mindfulness-based therapy is an integrative approach to psychotherapy that utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) methods in collaboration with mindfulness meditative practices and similar psychological strategies. This strategic approach helps clients shift their attention, to the present moment, while suspending judgment. We can't get rid of judgment, however, we can learn to suspend it as a strategy for better regulating emotions and increasing distress tolerance.
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that embraces mindfulness principles. DBT informed therapy teaches clients effective skills to cope with, and change, unhealthy behaviors. The term "dialectical" comes from the idea that bringing together two opposites -- acceptance and change and validating the value of both that are needed for therapy. A unique aspect of DBT is its focus on acceptance of a client’s experience as a prerequisite for behavior change.
