ACT is an approach to therapy that helps individuals shift their relationship with their internal experiences (thoughts, feelings, sensations, memories, etc.) by practicing awareness to the present (rather than feeling stuck in the past or worried about the future). ACT is an experiential approach that often includes building mindfulness skills, emotional and cognitive awareness, and exploring values. You will learn to effectively address stressors while building a meaningful, valuable life.
CBT is often an approach to therapy that is structured and skills-based. You will learn practical tools and strategies for shifting your thoughts, feelings, and actions to create change in your life. CBT teaches cognitive awareness and restructuring to impact how you feel and act. CBT takes a snapshot of your life, gives you opportunities to practice managing stress/change, and offers the effective tools you need to apply it generally in various areas of your life.
It is no secret that chronic pain or illness impacts not only all facets of our lives (work, relationships, etc.), but also all layers of the self (mind, body, spirit/soul). Then, healing should also be holistic and integrative. Through mind-body techniques like mindfulness, yoga, and somatic tracking we will work together on navigating the challenges of chronic pain/illness, while cultivating healing and building a meaningful life along the way.
Experiencing trauma can affect how we think and feel about the world, about others, and about ourselves. It can make it challenging to trust and feel safe with others and/or to be in our own bodies. Trauma often leaves people feeling disconnected, disengaged, or even fragmented.. which is why a holistic, integrative, mind-body approach is effective. Healing from trauma can be difficult & scary.. and also liberating. And I am here to walk alongside you on your journey.
