My Background and Approach
Dr. Arias Shah identifies herself as a systemic, collaborative and integrative clinician. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, her theoretical framework is grounded in systems, social constructionism and language. She notices patterns and cycles within the context of the systems; values and seeks to work collaboratively with other professionals and her clients, respecting their culture and diversities to assist in achieving their goals accordingly; and she integrates strength-based models such as Solution Oriented, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness (CBT-Mindfulness) accordingly. As a supervisor Dr. Arias Shah helps MFT supervisees become ethical, competent clinicians who develop a sense of self of the therapist, and are cognizant of their relationship to systems. She is interested in exploring with the supervisees their concepts on systems, change, and communication, reflecting their theoretical framework, competency and sensitivity to culture and diversities accordingly.
