My Background and Approach
Hi! My name is Dr. Dwayne White, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates. I completed a Ph.D. in Counselor Education at Auburn University and a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Columbus State University. I have over 7 years of clinical experience. While I provide counseling services to a wide range of individuals presenting with various concerns, including stress management, grief, anxiety, depression, and identity concerns, I specifically specialize in working with Black, Indigenous, People of Color and LGBTQIA+ identifying individuals within this community. My approach to counseling is flexible, laidback, and co-created – meaning this process is collaborative. I utilize an integrative intercultural counseling approach uniquely tailored to your needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I don’t believe people are broken or need to be fixed. I believe that you already have the tools inside of you, and through facilitating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, respect, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard, you can access those tools to live the life you see fit. I appreciate, value, and affirm my clients' intersecting social and cultural identities and experiences. I embody cultural humility tenets and strive to intentionally integrate culturally responsive techniques to help you actualize the self in whatever ways they see fit. While I integrate research-supported therapeutic techniques, I believe you come to therapy with self-knowledge and experience. Therefore, I strive to collaborate with you on treatment goals, objectives, interventions, and the process of therapy to meet their needs. Other things about me – I play tennis, love traveling, like to karaoke, and enjoy spending time with friends and family.
