About My Clients
The adult clients I typically work with in my practice are talented, smart, creative, and caring individuals who learned to be highly self-critical as a survival mechanism. Despite their track record of overachieving, they frequently struggle with feelings of inadequacy. This self-criticism often leads to stress, exhaustion, and feeling overwhelmed. They seek therapy because they want to find kinder ways to motivate themselves and establish a more sustainable, balanced, and authentic life.
My Approach to Helping
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help determine if my therapy approach and areas of expertise are the right fit for your current needs. My approach utilizes active listening, a supportive yet stimulating stance, humor, and kind frankness. I will share my perspective but also help you connect with your own voice and support you in making choices that are right for you. I encourage clients to focus on the present, stepping away from living in the past or an imagined future. I create an affirming environment for you to explore different parts of yourself and make sense of the contexts that have influenced your self-perception, relationships, and performance. My clients typically leave therapy feeling more confident in their ability to be true to themselves and with others, while also more effectively meeting their responsibilities. They often report feeling empowered, energized, and capable of incorporating joy and rest into their routine.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself. I am a proud Latina and a native Spanish speaker. I am a first-generation college graduate and the first in my family to obtain a doctoral degree. I identify as a cisgender, straight female who has not always conformed to culturally expected gender norms. I also live with chronic invisible illnesses and have experienced great fluctuations in body size throughout my life. I am a lifelong nerd who enjoys horror movies, rock music, and collecting owls. I enjoy traveling both locally and internationally to visit historic sites and learn about other cultures. I am passionate about multicultural psychology and promoting the health and wellness of historically oppressed groups including women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals. My clinical training, unique identities, and experiences inform my work with clients.
