About My Clients
I enjoy working with young people-primarily teenagers and their families. I have worked for many years with teens to help support them on issues such as school, friends, social media, etc. In addition, I have worked closely with their parents to help them understand the unique challenges that come with raising teenagers and to provide support and guidance if requested. I love being able to support and encourage young people who identify as LGBTQ.
My Background and Approach
Originally from the Midwest, I moved to Portland in 2007. I have been working with teenagers and families for 12 years as a mental health counselor where I support students in finding success in navigating this world. I also work closely with families to provide additional support on how to best assist their teenagers with this process. In my practice, I strive to create a comfortable, positive space where you can become a person who feels secure in your chosen path in life. I received my Master's degree through the University of Kansas and completed my hours towards my LCSW license in Portland. I have been trained in using Mindfulness, Restorative Justice, Emotional Security, and Eye Movement & Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist with processing trauma. In addition to working with youth and their families, I answer crisis lines across the US supporting people in need. I am excited to be able to offer video counseling as an option as well.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe being a teenager is hard, and I respect that young people are unique and complex individuals who deserve compassion and honesty in their process of learning to navigate life. I believe my clients are the experts of their own lives and I am here to provide support, guidance and perspective. I believe we all have a right to be who we are completely in whatever fashion that may be (without harm to others). I believe in spending time developing my own racial consciousness and my awareness of how racial dynamics influence our lives and our communities. I believe in feeling grateful.
