About My Clients

Adults with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and personal growth issues comprise the majority of my clients. Together, we form a collaborative therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect in a safe, confidential, and nonjudgement environment. Our focus is to explore, address, and overcome barriers to their optimal mental health. Sometimes what we discover on the journey leads to laughter and other times to tears, but it also provides important insights and self-improvement.

My Background and Approach

I enjoy what I do! I discovered at an early age that I liked listening to and assisting people with their problems. So, I am not sure if I picked my profession or if it picked me. Helping people navigate their lives in a positive and effective manner keeps my job interesting and rewarding. My professional training is in psychology, sociology, and social work. I had the opportunity to work with clients of different sociodemographic and cultural backgrounds in a variety of settings. In addition to working in diverse clinical environments, I have taught and conducted research in academia. My education and professional experiences shaped my approach to therapy. My diverse clientele requires an eclectic approach to the issues they face. I utilize the Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focus, psychoeducation, and other effective approaches to meet the needs of my clients. My ultimate goal is to help empower my clients with health skills that will improve their lives.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that mental health is a health issue. Like our physical health, we often neglect our mental health. But both need ongoing attention for us to live our best lives. The Covid-19 pandemic reminded us of the importance of monitoring and tending to our mental health needs. Our mental health is important to help us cope with day-to-day stressors, to develop and manage relationships with others, and to make healthy choices in our daily lives. Mental health is significant at every stage of life across the life span. Sometimes we need help assessing, managing, and treating our mental health issues. As we would do with our physical health concerns, I believe that we should seek compassionate mental health professionals who are trained to help us with our specific concerns. It is my goal to provide this for my clients. I understand how challenging it can be for clients to disclose matters of concern to them and therefore meet my clients where they are.
