In my experience, and research is beginning to validate this, no single approach or therapy fits all situations. What research has shown is that the number one factor in clients getting better is the strength of the relationship between the client and therapist. I have found that the best approach arises organically over the course of therapy. This allows each client to bring their unique challenges and strengths to therapy and therapy to meet you where you are.
Existential therapy can help you uncover the underlying issue behind your empty feelings and discover what stands in the way of your emotional well-being. In our sessions, I can guide you to examine and define what is and isn’t providing satisfaction and fulfillment in your life. You will empowered to change your life and know yourself in a deeper way.
The early messages we received from our pastors/teachers/parents/culture defined our beliefs about ourselves and the world. Our beliefs guide our thoughts. Our thoughts define how we filter the world. The problem is, most of us received messages about ourselves that simply were not true. Cognitive Behavior Therapy focuses on those underlying beliefs that no longer serve us are likely not even true. It can help create more rational and affirming beliefs through which we filter the world.
My best definition of Spirituality would be "the ever expanding, ever deepening connection between Self and what you define as the All That Is." I believe to be spiritually lost can be a good thing, although it definitely doesn't feel that way. In therapy we will explore/uncover that connection between yourself and the Divine that, right now, may feel like emptiness or depression. Together, let's rediscover meaning, purpose and the joy of living a connected life.
