About My Clients
Are you struggling with grief, depression, or anxiety? Are you experiencing issues of low self-esteem or trauma that impact your ability to function how you desire? Are you experiencing relationship troubles or going through a life transition that is leaving you feeling overwhelmed? Each of these can feel exhausting to carry on your shoulders alone. I provide a supportive space and the tools to alleviate this weight, help you work towards your goals, and regain healthy balance in your life.
My Background and Approach
My practice is rooted in how our mental and spiritual health is intertwined with the ways we interact with the world, and the ways the world interacts with us on an individual and collective basis. I recognize the centrality of culture is paramount for effective therapy and in our work together, we will focus on you as a whole individual, taking into account past traumas and the resulting coping mechanisms to better understand behaviors and determine the course of our work together as we focus both on the mind and the body. My goal as your therapist is to explore the roots of your distress and to reduce it by helping you see yourself, your environment and your relationships with increasing clarity. I will help you to identify both positive and unhealthy behavioral/coping patterns as they arise, and make thoughtful choices accordingly. I see my role as both as your guide and a follower in your meaningful and progressive journey to promote change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In therapy, it is paramount to look at the individual, as a whole, because each one of us possess more than one identity (i.e. gender, sexuality, religion, age, caste, class, ability/disability, race, ethnicity). Our mental health is impacted by our identities and the unique life experiences and stressors, including narratives of inequality, discrimination, erasure, and violence that people with marginalized identities experience, impacts the emotional and physical health on an individual and collective basis. As a white cisgender woman, I practice anti-racism and dismantling systems of oppression (especially within the mental health field) and am actively committed to confronting my implicit biases through training and educational materials. I support movements of social justice, including Black Lives Matter, the disabled, and the LGBTQ+ communities, on the fight for equality and visibility in our world. As your therapist, I welcome conversations around these very important topics.
