About My Clients
As an Asian American (Chinese, Filipina) myself and psychologist who has proactively worked with racial minorities for 10 years, my passions include providing individual therapy to the BIPOC community, as well as first generation college students, immigrants, and the LGBTQIA+ community. I specialize in disordered eating, trauma, and identity-related concerns. Having worked at several universities, my expertise also includes adjustment concerns and relationship issues.
My Background and Approach
I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and my bachelor’s degree from UCLA. I currently work as a staff psychologist and clinical supervisor at a large public university. As a therapist, I’m warm, compassionate, and collaborative. While I conceptualize from a psychodynamic lens and believe each of our histories shapes who we are, I practice from an integrative approach weaving in relational, CBT, ACT, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices into therapy. I aim to be culturally humble and explore how systems, oppression, power and privilege influence my clients’ struggles and strengths. I have always valued my relationships and a sense of community, which is why I see the relationship I build with my clients as the foundation for healing and change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I see social justice and advocacy as essential to my role as a psychologist and person. In addition to serving my fellow AAPIs, I am an ally to the Black Lives Matter movement, Palestine Liberation movement, immigrant rights, and LGBTQIA+ community. I am committed to anti-racism and consider myself a decolonial/liberatory psychologist. As an animal lover and parent to 2 cats, I'm also an animal rights activist and vegetarian.
