My Background and Approach
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker & trauma therapist with experience in both outpatient, inpatient, and community based crisis work. I specialize in working with mixed race/bicultural and identity exploring couples and individuals ages 15 and above. I’m a liberation-focused somatic therapist who uses a strength-based, person-centered, and eclectic approaches in therapy. Integrating modalities helps me and clients find the path to healing which works for them because I know healing is not one size fits all. My approach has been especially helpful for gender-expansive and BIPOC because it is also rooted in visions of decolonization, anti-oppression, and collective liberation. If you allow me, I will help you process and let go of the harmful stories, beliefs, and habits holding you back so you can start to feel confident in who you are again. So you can build sustainable resiliency rooted in not only yourself but also community.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Why justice oriented or liberation focused therapy? As a mixed race Lao-Mexican American I have experienced life in a very nuanced and complicated way. That led to confusion about my beliefs, values, and identity growing up. The pain I couldn’t sort alone brought me to therapy. My therapist listened free of judgment/expectation and helped me see things in new ways. Their culturally attuned approach helped me feel less alone and out of place. I also began to realize that my feelings of pain were influenced by more than just my experiences, it was bigger, it was systemic. Unaware of the the systems of harm that affect our internal & external identity, I realized I was confused & disconnected not only from myself, but from the true history of mental health & the story of my own ancestors- my own people. Self-awareness seeded into growth and eventually my pain led me to seek my own liberation and cultivated a passion to help others, this mixed healing collective, find theirs.
