When loss becomes a piece of our story, it can be heartbreaking and surreal as we wrestle with the reality of that which is no longer. It is my hope that these are also moments of reflection on how to re-remember what or who has been lost in a way that is honoring to you, your growth, and your resilience. Whether this leads to conversations about honoring a legacy, or hindering ties to something more complicated and strained, my desire is to create a space where you can grieve in your own way.

Traumatic events can shake us to the core and trap us in a cycle of “re-living” past events. I use a combination of Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Lifespan Integration to treat Trauma. These approaches combine psycho-education, coping strategies, talk therapy that focuses on Trauma's interference on your ability to live in a way that honors your preferences and values, and an effective mind-body trauma-reprocessing approach that uses timelines and guided imagery.

In addition to my lived experiences as a Woman of Color, I have 10 years of experience in Higher Education as a leader in committees, training development, and presentations related to diversity and inclusion. I partner my expertise in Diversity and Inclusion and Mental Health to provide therapeutic care that challenges and deconstructs internalized oppression, impostor-syndrome, stereotype-threat, and racial trauma.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy assesses how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Our thoughts may make us sad; our sadness may lead us to act out, and our actions may influence the way we think about who we are and who we should be. It’s easy to get stuck in cycles of depressive and anxious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT focuses on psycho-education, skill-building, and practice to replace ineffective cycles with adaptive ones.

Narrative Therapy is my primary orientation. It is concerned with stories about who we are, who others see us to be, and who the world says we should be. Healing is seen as challenging oppressive narratives that hinder one’s ability to live fully and authentically. Problems are separate from the person. Depression may intrude on someone’s life, but it does not define who that person is. Narrative Therapy is about expanding our perception of the richness of our lives beyond the Problem.
